I wrote Holy in 2018 after reading an article about how hallucinogenic drugs could be used as a potential treatment for opiate addiction. The theory behind the paper was that things like LSD and psilocybin mushrooms could cause “meaningful experiences”, often bordering on the religious. These experiences then inspired patients to do good things, like treat their own addictions. So I wondered, what if some future doctor unwittingly made an even more powerful hallucinogen that tapped into that religious feeling, perhaps going so far as to show the person “the face of God”?

Holy is an interview-style short story about that very idea. It’s about 40 pages long and tracks the theoretical effects such a drug might have on the world. I had a TON of fun writing this little short and I sincerely hope people have just as much fun reading it.
